This book is clearly a labor of love by Tom Barrance. He has put his heart and soul into producing a book that teaches you the fundamentals of film making, but also delves into advanced concepts.

This is an A-Z for beginners, but is also useful for intermediate and advanced filmmakers. It is super easy to read and understand, including the technical stuff. Every topic contains pictorial descriptions and examples, which guide the reader.

This is, honestly, the absolute BEST book I’ve come across on the subject. Just buy it!

Nice instead or as an add on to a video course. Now you can take it with you and read (en read again) in your own pace. Explaining and language is good, especially for the beginner. Definitely a must have!

A good introduction to the filmmaking process. It begins with developing a story idea. Then it covers Pre-production, production, post-production, and finally a thumbnail view of distribution. It is a well illustrated book that will get you started on your journey into filmmaking.

Such a simply yet thorough book job. This book really gives you the fundamentals of storytelling through moving pictures and sound – not only that but light and creativity too! I wish I could’ve gotten before starting my course in Audiovisual.

Plz Don’t buy . Not worth buying because you gona lose money and time.

Bought it for my teenage son who loves taking videos on my phone. Lots of detailed information with information visually presented in an easy-to-read format. Happy to have something that helps him understand the bigger view of the filmmaking process, and also learn the step-by-step stuff.

I love this type of book. Lots of pictures and clear explanations of how you do it. It is a great primer for people whating to learn about making films.

If you are interested in making movies this well thought out guide is a great place to begin. Full of great tips and advice: “..what you really need is a good idea. Then you need to take the time to work out how to turn the idea into a movie.” And this book does just that: guide you through the basics including planning, equipment, film language, shooting, lighting recording sound and editing. It’s concise, easy to read and well-illustrated and once you’ve done this ‘course’ you’ll be ready to fly!. Thank you Tom!

This book is great for teachers of film / tv who need ideas for lesson plans. The content is up to date and easy to understand. I originally bought this as an iPad app and then iBook. Well worth the purchase.

Hi. I bought this amazing book on-line after reviewing some of its pieces on camera shots on Internet. This is an extremely useful, concise and complete book with all the images supporting the content when needed. I have finished it twice and tend to use it like a little bible for quick reference. I like the .PDF and the contents. I took the printed pages and made it into a “flip-book”. this way I have a go-to reference during training and it lays flat so it is easy to use.
